A number of corporations have now followed suit. Who participates in supplier diversity? Over 75 corporations participate as well as all local, state, and national government entities
If you wonder why these companies are really interesting in supplier diversity, you can read about the organizations currently watching how inclusive these corporations are and even publish ratings about their supplier diversity programs.
There are other state, regional, and local organizations watching as well. For instance, The Greenlining Institute in California produces the
“Supplier Diversity Report Card”
annually about various California corporations. Regulating entities like the California PUC also place benchmarks for corporations and will make inquiries during hearings about their progress. Corporations are very driven to be more inclusive with minority suppliers.
A greater focus has been placed on women-owned businesses as well as service disabled-owned businesses. This data is reflected in the Supplier Diversity Report Card issued annually by The Greenlining Institute.. The U.S. Small BusWhiness Administration published a final rule effective February 4, 2011, aimed at expanding federal contracting opportunities for women-owned small businesses (WOSBs). More information is available by visiting www.sba.gov.
Across the country, service disabled-owned, minority-owned and female-owned businesses have experienced a competitive advantage because they provide other businesses with the ability to achieve diversity goals. Until now, that same advantage was not available to businesses that were owned and operated by people with disabilities.
So, simply put, NOW is the time to focus on supplier diversity programs to build your business. Wonder what the next step would be to get your piece of the supplier diversity pie?
